07 - 5.3 oz cooked ham, diced

08 - 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves
09 - 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
10 - 1/2 tsp salt, adjust to taste
11 - Pinch of nutmeg

12 - 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley, for garnish
# Preparation steps:
01 - Preheat the oven to 350°F. Butter a medium baking dish approximately 8x12 inches.
02 - Arrange half of the sliced potatoes evenly in the dish. Sprinkle with half the chopped onion, minced garlic, diced ham, and grated Gruyère cheese. Season with salt, pepper, thyme leaves, and a pinch of nutmeg.
03 - Add the remaining potatoes, onion, ham, and Gruyère cheese in a second layer, then season again with salt, pepper, thyme, and nutmeg.
04 - Pour the heavy cream evenly over the layered ingredients. Dot the top with remaining butter.
05 - Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for 15 more minutes until the surface is golden and bubbly.
06 - Let the dish rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
