Instructions
- Step 1:
- Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F) Grease and line two 20 cm (8-inch) round cake pans with parchment paper
- Step 2:
- In a large bowl whisk together flour baking powder and salt Set aside

- In another bowl beat butter and sugar until pale and fluffy Add eggs one at a time beating well after each addition Mix in vanilla
- Step 4:
- Alternately add the flour mixture and milk to the wet ingredients beginning and ending with flour Mix until just combined
- Step 5:
- Divide batter evenly between prepared pans Smooth the tops
- Step 6:
- Bake for 3035 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean Cool in pans for 10 minutes then turn out onto a rack to cool completely
- Step 7:
- For the buttercream beat butter until creamy Gradually add powdered sugar milk and vanilla beating until smooth Divide frosting tint one portion pink and another yellow
- Step 8:
- Level cake layers if needed Place one layer on a serving plate and spread with pink buttercream Top with the second layer frost the entire cake with yellow buttercream
- Step 9:
- Decorate with heart and star-shaped sugar decorations Sprinkle with edible glitter or pearls if desired
